Program Details

During seven online sessions, the Journey in Consciousness series will explore the most fundamental questions facing us as individuals and as a society—what is the nature of our consciousness, where are we as a society in progressing our consciousness, and how can we advance our own consciousness.

Session descriptions and suggested readings can be found below as well as links to recordings of sessions.

Session One Divine Theme Part One- Evolution and Reincarnation

Meher Baba has provided a comprehensive map for how the universe operates in order to progress consciousness for each individual. This session will introduce the overall series of "Journey in Consciousness" and begin the overview of this map of Creation to explore the first two of three phases that all individuals will undergo as they advance from infinite unconsciousness to infinite consciousness-- evolution of consciousness through form and reincarnation in the human form.

Session Three: How Consciousness Progresses

Consciousness progresses in its development through two highly interrelated forces: karma is the universal law that ensures each being’s experience is continually being balanced; and sanskaras, or impressions of the mind, are continually created and spent by everyone. These impressions enable the soul to advance in consciousness, however eventually everyone must begin unburdening the effect of these impressions in order to further their spiritual development. This session covers the major ways to unwind sanskaras—an essential for the seeker

Suggested readings include:

“Discourses” by Meher Baba, 7th Edition; “The Formation and Function of Sanskaras”, “The Removal of Sanskaras” and “Reincarnation and Karma”; pages 32-60 (online version Part I. 52-80) and 301-338 (online version Part 4: pages 31-68)

Session Four: The Role of a Master

Ultimately the most efficient and effective approach to unwinding sanskaras is through cultivating a relationship with one who has already completed the journey in consciousness and who is one with God. Spiritual masters, sometimes known either as a Man-God or God-Man, are fully realized souls who know the specific sanskaric and karmic requirements of each individual, and are exacting in their ability to assist individuals as they attempt to advance in consciousness.

Suggested readings include:

Session Five: Avatar Meher Baba’s Life and Work

Meher Baba’s life is an extraordinarily rich tapestry which demonstrates the ideal of “Mastery in Servitude.” On an external level, his activities included the training of disciples, service to the poor and needy, multiple travels to the west, establishment of numerous schools and hospitals to serve the poor and needy, work with the God-intoxicated, periods of seclusion and wandering, and extensive programs contacting hundreds of thousands of people in the east and west. However it was his internal universal work that was always primary, and this was accomplished in ways both seen and unseen.

Session Six: The New Humanity

Meher Baba said that the impact of the Avatar's advent will result in the general raising of consciousness from the level of reason to the level of intuition. He also said that his universal work would result in a general spiritual push to all, and the ushering in of a new era which he called “The New Humanity." In this transformed time, spiritual understanding and experience would become commonplace for one and all. Baba referred to this Avataric period as “the spring-tide of creation.”

Session Seven: The Path of Love

Meher Baba has said that the high road to God is through the Path of Love-- love for God, for the Master, and for one another. He has provided authoritative guidance for those who are interested in pursuing this spiritual path. While it is possible to make progress spiritually on one’s own, Baba has placed particular emphasis on the value of following a God-realized master. There are certain guideposts for how one might recognize such a master and commit to following them. Further, there are certain key requirements to becoming a follower of such a master. This session will explore what is the path of love, and will conclude with a guided opportunity to consider how the topics covered in this program resonate with each participant, and what the implications might be for further spiritual development.
